The Process
What does a FORTIFIED evaluator do?
A certified evaluator guides the project, coordinates documentation with your contractor (and engineer if needed), and submits the required evidence for audit so you can earn or maintain a FORTIFIED designation.
Is FORTIFIED required, or is it optional?
FORTIFIED is a voluntary program designed to improve a home’s resilience and reduce the risk of storm-related damage.
How long does the FORTIFIED process usually take?
Timing depends on your project type and contractor schedule, but most homeowners move through eligibility/installation, documentation, and certification. This process can take between 21 and 30 days.
Will you work with my contractor?
Yes. We collaborate with contractors to clarify FORTIFIED requirements and ensure the right documentation and photo evidence is captured during installation.
What do you need from me to get started?
Typically your Name, property address/zip, basic scope (new roof, re-roof, renewal, repairs), and insurance/grant details if applicable.

Are the Strengthen Your Roof and Strengthen Your Coastal Roof Grants Income-based?
No. In North Carolina, the Strengthen Your Roof, Strengthen Your Coastal Roof, and Stronger Roof Grants are available to current NCIUA (Coastal Property Insurance Pool) policy holders in specific rating territories.
What is NCIUA and why does it matter?
NCIUA is the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (Coastal Property Insurance Pool). Many grant opportunities are limited to eligible NCIUA policyholders in defined coastal rating territories.
Which grant is the right one for my location?
It depends on your property’s rating territory (Outer Banks/Barrier Islands vs broader coastal territories) and your policy type. We can help you confirm the right path.
Can a FORTIFIED designation help with insurance?
